Virtual: Deemed a Runaway – Black Laws of the North

February 26, 2022 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm

FPL welcomes Judy Russell, The Legal Genealogist, our 2022 genealogy keynote speaker. Using her legal background, she will lead four virtual workshops for genealogists and historians.

Slavery’s force was felt far north of the Mason-Dixon Line. The Black Laws of northern states created valuable records for tracing African-American families. Learn how understanding this law and its records can be uniquely rewarding for descendants of the enslaved and the enslavers alike and for those who were their neighbors and friends.

Judy Russell, The Legal Genealogist, is our 2022 genealogy keynote speaker. She will use her legal background to lead four virtual workshops for genealogists, historians or anyone new to the hobby.  Virtual sessions will be held throughout the day.  Registration is required for each session.
